The Showmen were an American vocal group active from 1961, working primarily within the doo-wop and rhythm-and-blues genres. Emerging during the early 1960s, the group contributed to the doo-wop tradition that characterized much of mid-century American popular music. Their name reflected the theatrical nature of their performances, consistent with the entertainment-focused ethos of vocal groups during this era. The Showmen remained part of the broader rhythm-and-blues and doo-wop landscape that defined popular vocal music of their time.
