Omar & the Howlers is a blues and rock ensemble founded in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1973. The band relocated to Austin, Texas in 1976, establishing themselves as a fixture of the Texas blues scene. Led by singer and guitarist Omar Dykes, the group became known for their electric blues sound and built an international following through extensive European tours. They achieved significant commercial success with their 1987 album Hard Times in the Land of Plenty, which exceeded half a million copies sold and produced a top 20 American hit single.
