Ike Turner was an American musician, bandleader, and record producer who played a formative role in the development of rock and roll during the 1950s. Born in 1931, Turner worked as a songwriter and talent scout while building his musical career across blues, soul, and rhythm and blues. He achieved his greatest prominence from the 1960s through the 1970s as leader of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, performing alongside his wife Tina Turner. Turner's contributions to early rock and roll and his prolific work as a producer and bandleader left a lasting impact on popular music history until his death in 2007.
