Sugar Ray is an American rock band formed in Newport Beach, California in 1986. Initially performing in a heavier nu metal and funk metal style, the group transitioned to mainstream success following their 1997 hit single "Fly," which prompted a shift toward pop-oriented music. The band's commercially strongest period came with their 1999 album 14:59, which included the successful tracks "Every Morning" and "Someday." Subsequent releases—a self-titled album in 2001 with the single "When It's Over," along with In the Pursuit of Leisure (2003) and Music for Cougars (2009)—achieved more modest commercial returns. The band maintained an active touring schedule through the 2010s.
