Koko Taylor was an American blues and soul singer born in 1928 who became one of the genre's most recognizable figures. Known for her distinctive, forceful vocal style, she performed across multiple blues idioms including Chicago blues, electric blues, and rhythm and blues throughout her career. Taylor earned widespread acclaim and received 11 Grammy Award nominations, with a significant win in 1985 for Best Traditional Blues Album. Often referred to as "The Queen of the Blues," she remained an influential performer until her death in 2009, leaving a lasting impact on American blues music.
