Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes
Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes were an American soul and R&B vocal group originating from Philadelphia. Originally formed in the mid-1950s as The Charlemagnes, they became one of the most prominent Philadelphia soul acts of the 1970s. The group achieved their greatest commercial success between 1972 and 1976 while recording for Philadelphia International Records under producers Gamble and Huff. Though Harold Melvin was the group's founder and namesake, lead vocalist Teddy Pendergrass became their most recognizable member during their peak years. The ensemble performed across multiple soul, R&B, doo-wop, and disco styles before disbanding in 1996. Surviving members reunited for performances on Soul Train Cruises in 2013, 2015, and 2017.
