C-Bo is an American rapper from Sacramento, California, known for his contributions to West Coast hip hop and gangsta rap. Born Shawn Thomas, he gained notoriety not only for his music but also for his legal battles. In 1998, he became the first prominent rapper incarcerated specifically for his lyrical content, following his 1995 track "Deadly Game," which criticized state political figures and California's sentencing legislation. Despite three unsuccessful appeals, C-Bo has remained an influential figure in hip hop history.
