The Monkees' debut studio album was released in October 1966 through Colgems Records domestically and RCA Victor internationally. It became the first of four consecutive U.S. number one albums, dominating the Billboard 200 for thirteen weeks before being surpassed by their second release. The album also reached the top position on the UK charts in 1967 and has achieved quintuple platinum certification from the RIAA, representing over five million copies sold.
