The Monkees' debut single was written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart and released in August 1966. Recorded at RCA Victor Studio B in Hollywood, the song achieved significant commercial success, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in November 1966. It was subsequently included on the group's self-titled album released in October 1966 and appeared in more television episodes than any other Monkees song.
