The Butterfield Blues Band was an American blues and blues-rock group based in Chicago, formed in 1963. Led by vocalist and harmonica player Paul Butterfield, the ensemble originally included guitarist Elvin Bishop, bassist Jerome Arnold, and drummer Sam Lay. The band expanded to include guitarist Mike Bloomfield and keyboardist Mark Naftalin prior to their self-titled debut release in October 1965. Active until 1970, the group became influential figures in electric blues and rock music. The founding members were honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, alongside Billy Davenport, who drummed on their second album, East-West.
