The Sugarhill Gang

The Sugarhill Gang is an American hip-hop group formed in Englewood, New Jersey, in 1979. The trio achieved historical significance with "Rapper's Delight," released that same year, which became the first rap record to crack the Billboard Hot 100 top 40, peaking at number 36 in early 1980. While this remained their sole major U.S. chart success, the group found sustained popularity throughout Europe during the early-to-mid 1980s. After a lengthy hiatus, the members reunited in 1994 and subsequently undertook a world tour beginning in 2016.
