William Lee Broonzy was an influential American blues musician whose career spanned several decades and musical transformations. Beginning in the 1920s, he initially performed country music for African-American audiences before transitioning to urban blues in the 1930s and 1940s, appealing to working-class listeners. In the 1950s, Broonzy returned to his folk-blues foundations, becoming a prominent figure in the American folk music revival and achieving international recognition.
