Mercyful Fate

Mercyful Fate is a Danish heavy metal band formed in Copenhagen in 1981 by vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Hank Shermann. Drawing from progressive rock and hard rock traditions, the band developed a distinctive sound centered on themes of Satanism and the occult. As pioneers of the early black metal movement alongside acts like Venom and Bathory, Mercyful Fate significantly shaped the evolution of thrash metal and death metal throughout the 1980s.
