Glenn Miller was an American big band leader, arranger, composer, and trombonist who became one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century. Rising to prominence in the 1930s and early 1940s, Miller led Glenn Miller and his Orchestra, which achieved unprecedented commercial success during the swing era. Known for polished, accessible arrangements that appealed to mass audiences, his band produced numerous hits and became a cultural phenomenon. Miller also served as an officer in the US Army Air Forces during World War II, leading military dance bands. He disappeared in December 1944 while traveling by airplane, a tragedy that ended his recording career at its peak.
