Creedence Clearwater Revival was an American rock band formed in El Cerrito, California, in 1959 by lead vocalist and guitarist John Fogerty, his brother Tom on rhythm guitar, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford. The group evolved from earlier ensembles known as the Blue Velvets and the Golliwogs before adopting their final name in 1967. Between 1969 and 1971, CCR achieved remarkable commercial success, generating 14 consecutive top-10 singles and five consecutive top-10 albums, including the chart-topping releases Green River and Cosmo's Factory. The band was notably the first major act signed to perform at the 1969 Woodstock festival. Though the group disbanded in 1972, their influential blend of rock, blues, and country elements established them as a defining act of their era.
