The Monkees were an American pop rock ensemble that achieved major commercial success in the late 1960s. Created by television producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider in 1965, the group was assembled for an NBC comedy series bearing their name. The band featured Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. Active from 1966 to 1970, the Monkees released music across multiple formats, with their recordings featured both as studio albums and within the television program, which ran from 1966 to 1968. Their output spanned numerous genres including rock, pop, psychedelic rock, and baroque pop, establishing them as one of the decade's defining acts.
