Marquis De Sade was a French post-punk group active from 1977 to 1981. The band emerged during the height of the post-punk movement in France, contributing to the country's vibrant experimental music scene of the late 1970s. Their name drew from the historical figure of the French nobleman and writer known for his controversial literary works and unconventional ideas. The group's output reflected the raw energy and intellectual provocations characteristic of post-punk, though they remained relatively short-lived, disbanding in 1981.
