Little Willie Littlefield was an American pianist and singer who played a significant role in the evolution of popular music during the mid-twentieth century. Born in 1931, he rose to prominence as a teenage sensation in 1949, when his Modern Records debut introduced a distinctive triplet piano approach to audiences. His work bridged the gap between boogie-woogie traditions and the emerging rock and roll sound. Among his notable recordings was an early version of "Kansas City," which he cut in 1952. Littlefield's innovative style and energetic performances established him as an influential figure in rhythm and blues throughout his lengthy career, which extended until his death in 2013.
