Lawrence Parker, professionally known as KRS-One, is an American rapper and singer from the Bronx who emerged as a central figure in hip-hop during the mid-1980s. He co-founded Boogie Down Productions with DJ Scott La Rock, a partnership that produced the influential album Criminal Minded and earned widespread critical recognition. Following La Rock's death, KRS-One continued the project independently and launched a solo recording career in 1993. Recognized for conscious rap addressing social and political themes, he is known for tracks including "Sound of da Police" and "My Philosophy." Beyond music, KRS-One has been active in social causes, founding the Stop the Violence Movement and advocating for veganism. His contributions to hip-hop have established him as an influential figure who shaped the genre's artistic and philosophical direction.
