Thick as a Brick is the fifth studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released in March 1972 on Chrysalis Records. The album features a single continuous musical piece divided across both sides of the vinyl record and was designed as a satirical commentary on concept albums and progressive rock. The packaging mimicked a twelve-page newspaper, presenting the work as a musical interpretation of an epic poem supposedly composed by a fictional child genius named Gerald Bostock, though the actual lyrics were created by frontman Ian Anderson.
