Emerson, Lake & Palmer were an English progressive rock supergroup established in London in 1970, featuring keyboardist Keith Emerson, vocalist and bassist Greg Lake, and drummer Carl Palmer, all formerly of respected rock ensembles. The trio achieved substantial commercial success throughout the 1970s, selling approximately 48 million records globally and earning nine gold certifications in the United States. Their distinctive sound blended progressive rock with classical and jazz influences, characterized by Emerson's prominent use of keyboards including the Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer, and piano. The band remained active until 2011, establishing themselves as one of the era's most influential acts in the symphonic rock genre.
