"Cream" was released in September 1991 as the second single from Prince's 13th studio album, Diamonds and Pearls. The track was recorded with his backing band the New Power Generation and distributed through Paisley Park and Warner. It became Prince's fifth and final number-one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100, spending two weeks at the top position. The song achieved significant international success, reaching the top ten in 15 countries and placing within the top three in Australia, Canada, Norway, and Switzerland.
