The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale is Prince's twenty-second studio album, released by Warner Bros. Records in August 1999. The album was submitted to the label in 1996 alongside artwork and another album titled Chaos and Disorder, but its release was delayed by three years. It came out shortly before Prince's Arista Records album Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic. Recording sessions took place between 1985 and 1996, and it served as the final album Warner Bros. released to satisfy Prince's 1992 contract terms.
