Buddy Holly wrote and performed this song, which came out after his death in July 1959 as a 45-rpm single paired with "Crying, Waiting, Hoping". The track served as a follow-up to his 1957 song "Peggy Sue" and was among the earliest sequels in rock music history. It was inspired by Peggy Sue Gerron's 1958 marriage to Jerry Allison, the drummer of The Crickets.
