Sounds of Silence is the second studio album by the American folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, released in January 1966. The album's opening track is a modified version of their first major hit, originally titled "The Sounds of Silence." The track had previously appeared in acoustic form on an earlier album and later on a film soundtrack. Without the artists' knowledge, electric instrumentation was added to the original recording in mid-1965, and this electric version was released as a single in autumn 1965.
