Sérgio Santos Mendes was a Brazilian musician born in 1941 who became a influential figure in jazz, bossa nova, and Latin music. Working as a pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader, he helped shape the sound of soft rock and adult contemporary music throughout his career. His versatility extended across multiple genres including disco, Latin jazz, and rock. Mendes remained active in music for over eight decades until his death in 2024. He was among the musicians affected by the 2008 Universal fire, which destroyed master recordings and significant portions of the company's archives.
