Run-DMC was an American hip-hop group from Hollis, Queens, New York City, formed in 1983 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell. The trio ranks among the most influential acts in hip-hop history and remains iconic of the 1980s era. Alongside peers including Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, and Public Enemy, Run-DMC helped establish new-school hip-hop and contributed to the genre's golden age. The group was instrumental in popularizing the dynamic between MCs and DJs, shaping the sound and culture of hip-hop for generations to come. Run-DMC remained active until 2002.
