Da Brat is an American rapper from Chicago who emerged as a pioneering figure in hip hop during the 1990s. Beginning her professional career in 1992, she joined Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Recordings and released her debut album, Funkdafied, in 1994. The project achieved platinum status from the RIAA, marking a historic milestone as the first solo female hip hop album to reach this certification level. Working across rap, hip hop, and soul-influenced styles, Da Brat established herself as one of the genre's most prominent female voices and continues to be recognized for her contributions to southern and midwest hip hop.
