The Platters are an American vocal group that emerged as one of the most successful acts of the early rock and roll era. Formed in the mid-1950s, they distinguished themselves by blending rhythm and blues with elements of traditional pop songwriting, creating a sound that bridged pre-rock and contemporary styles. Led by tenor Tony Williams alongside members David Lynch, Paul Robi, Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor, the group achieved remarkable commercial success, charting 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1955 and 1967, with four reaching number one. The ensemble became known for multiple lineup changes throughout their history, branded as "Many Voices One Name." Their legacy was cemented with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, and the group continues to perform internationally under the stewardship of Herb Reed Enterprises.
