Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band that formed in San Francisco in 1965 and became one of the most influential acts of the psychedelic rock movement. As pioneers of the San Francisco Sound, they were the first Bay Area band to achieve widespread international popularity. The group performed at major festivals including Monterey Pop (1967), the inaugural Isle of Wight Festival (1968), Woodstock (1969), and Altamont Free Concert (1969). Their 1967 album Surrealistic Pillow became a defining work of the Summer of Love era, featuring two enduring classics: "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit", both recognized among Rolling Stone's greatest songs. The band remained active until 1973.
