Iron Maiden are an English heavy metal band established in East London in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. A cornerstone of the new wave of British heavy metal movement, the group achieved international prominence following Bruce Dickinson's arrival as lead vocalist in 1981, replacing original singer Paul Di'Anno. This lineup change marked a significant turning point, solidifying their status among metal's most influential acts. Their 1982 album The Number of the Beast became one of the genre's defining records, selling approximately 20 million copies worldwide. The band's classic configuration has featured Harris alongside Dickinson, drummer Nicko McBrain, and guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers, producing numerous platinum and gold releases throughout their career.
