The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. Over more than six decades of activity, they have established themselves as one of the most significant and influential acts in rock music history. The band's original lineup featured vocalist Mick Jagger, guitarist Keith Richards, multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones, bassist Bill Wyman, and drummer Charlie Watts, alongside keyboardist Ian Stewart. In their formative years, the group developed the raw, rhythmically intense style that would become foundational to hard rock. Under manager Andrew Loog Oldham's direction, they transitioned from covers to original compositions, with the Jagger–Richards songwriting partnership emerging as the creative backbone of their prolific career.
