Marvin Pentz Gaye Jr. was an influential American R&B and soul artist who became a defining figure in Motown's development during the 1960s and 1970s. Operating as both performer and producer, he earned the titles "Prince of Motown" and "Prince of Soul" for his contributions to shaping the label's distinctive sound. Gaye's career spanned from 1939 to 1984 and established him as one of the most significant singers and songwriters in popular music history. His work combined soul, funk, and progressive elements that influenced generations of musicians across multiple genres.
