Laundry Service is Shakira's fifth studio album and her initial venture into English-language recording. Released in November 2001 through Epic Records, it followed the Latin American success of her previous work. Encouraged by Gloria Estefan to pursue the English-language pop market, Shakira learned English to write songs in the language. The album blends pop rock with various musical styles including Andean, dance-pop, Middle Eastern, rock and roll, and tango influences.
