Laundry Service is Shakira's fifth studio album and inaugural English-language release, launched in November 2001 through Epic Records. Following the Latin American success of her previous album, Gloria Estefan encouraged Shakira to pursue English-language recordings to expand into mainstream pop markets. Shakira learned English to compose in the language herself. The album blends pop rock with various musical influences including Andean, dance-pop, Middle Eastern, rock and roll, and tango elements.
