Martha Reeves and the Vandellas

Martha and the Vandellas were an American girl group that emerged from Detroit, Michigan, becoming one of Motown Records' most successful acts during the 1960s. Originally formed in 1957 by friends Annette Beard, Rosalind Ashford, and Gloria Williams, the ensemble underwent a significant shift when Martha Reeves joined as lead vocalist following Williams's departure in 1962. Recording under Gordy Records, a Motown subsidiary, the group rose to prominence throughout the decade, establishing themselves as key figures in soul and rhythm and blues music before concluding their initial run in 1972.
