Mad Skillz, the stage name of Donnie Shaquan Lewis, is an American rapper from Virginia who emerged in the mid-1990s hip hop scene. He gained recognition with his 1996 debut album, which reflected his geographic identity outside the dominant New York and Los Angeles rap centers of that era. Operating within boom bap and hardcore hip hop traditions, Mad Skillz has maintained a distinctive presence through his annual "Rap Ups" series, a yearly tradition he has sustained since 2002, offering his perspective on the state of hip hop and popular culture.
