"Physical" was recorded by British-Australian singer Olivia Newton-John for her 1981 eleventh studio album of the same name. It served as the album's lead single, released in 1981. The song was created by songwriters Steve Kipner and Terry Shaddick, who had originally considered offering it to Rod Stewart. It was also proposed to Tina Turner through her manager, but after Turner rejected it, her manager offered the track to Newton-John instead.
