"Walkin' After Midnight" was written by Alan Block and Don Hecht. Originally offered to Kay Starr, whose label declined it, the song remained unused until Hecht found it while working for 4 Star Records. Lynn Howard and the Accents released the first recording in August 1956. Patsy Cline recorded her version in November 1956 and released it as a single in February 1957, despite initial reluctance about the song.
