A waltz composed in 1945 by bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe and initially performed by his band, the Blue Grass Boys. The song may have been influenced by a similar waltz titled "Roll Along, Kentucky Moon" that bluegrass musician Jimmie Rodgers had recorded approximately 15 years before. The composition gained widespread recognition when various artists, including Elvis Presley and Paul McCartney, recorded their own versions. It eventually became designated as Kentucky's official bluegrass song.
