Hank Williams composed and recorded this country standard in 1952. It is considered one of the most significant works in country music history. Williams wrote the song while traveling with his fiancée from Nashville to Shreveport, Louisiana, drawing inspiration from his first wife Audrey Sheppard, whose behavior he described as unfaithful. He quickly dictated the lyrics to Billie Jean Jones. The recording took place at Castle Studio in Nashville during his final session.
