Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo is an American R&B singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. Beginning her professional music career in 2002, she initially worked as a backing vocalist and performer in music videos for the R&B ensemble B2K while signed to their label, The Ultimate Group, under Epic Records. Though promoted as a family member of the group to build recognition, the connection was purely marketing strategy. Her early debut album, scheduled for release in 2003, was ultimately shelved as she chose to prioritize her formal education. Aiko's artistry spans contemporary R&B, soul, neo-soul, and trap-influenced sounds.
