"The Sound of Silence" was a major hit for the folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. Originally released in acoustic form on their debut album, the song received an electric arrangement with added guitars, bass, and drums in mid-1965. This electric version was released as a single in September 1965 and became the opening track on their second studio album, which came out in January 1966.
