DJ Mendez is a Chilean-Swedish musician, DJ, and producer whose career spans several decades in Latin music. Born Leopoldo Jorge Méndez Alcayaga, he adopted the stage name Méndez after initially performing as DJ Mendez. Beginning his professional work in the mid-1970s, he established himself as a notable figure in Latin electronic and dance music. His contributions to the genre were recognized when he received the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica award for Best Southwest New Artist, cementing his status as an influential artist in the Latin music scene.
