The Cranberries are an Irish rock band that formed in 1989 in Limerick. Blending alternative rock with pop sensibilities, they developed a distinctive sound incorporating elements of post-punk, indie rock, and dream pop, often characterized by ethereal vocals and acoustic arrangements. The group's music drew influences from grunge and chamber pop traditions while maintaining strong Celtic roots. Active throughout the 1990s and 2000s, The Cranberries became notable figures in the alternative rock scene, combining soft rock textures with jangle pop aesthetics. The band remained influential within Irish and broader alternative music until their dissolution in 2019.
