C.J. Chenier was an American zydeco musician born in 1925 and active until his death in 1987. The son of pioneering zydeco artist Clifton Chenier, he followed his father's musical path as an accordion player and vocalist. In 1987, Chenier took over leadership of his father's band, continuing the family tradition of performing zydeco, a distinctive fusion of Cajun and Creole musical styles. By the early 1990s, he had released five albums and began recording with the Chicago-based Alligator Records label, establishing himself as a notable figure in zydeco music.
