Paul Anka wrote and recorded this song in August 1958 with Don Costa's orchestra in New York, though its release was delayed until May 1959. Upon release, it became a major commercial success, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks and marking Anka's first chart-topper on that particular chart. The song ranked fifth on Billboard's year-end 1959 rankings and reached number two on Canadian charts. Anka also performed the song in the film Girls Town, released in October 1959.
