This country blues composition was created by Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon, members of the Mississippi Sheiks, who first recorded it in 1930. According to Vinson, he wrote the piece one morning following a performance at a white dance event in Greenwood, Mississippi. The song achieved significant crossover commercial success and was recognized with induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008.
