"Ceremony" was originally composed by Joy Division and later became New Order's first single release in 1981. The song and its accompanying B-side track were initially recorded during Joy Division's era, before the death of their lead vocalist Ian Curtis. Both pieces were subsequently re-recorded when the band reformed under the new name New Order.
