Yield is Pearl Jam's fifth studio album, released in early 1998. The band recorded it throughout 1997 at two Seattle studios following their promotional efforts for the previous album. Critics regarded it as a return to the band's foundational rock style and noted it represented a shift toward greater collaborative songwriting among band members, rather than relying primarily on the frontman to write lyrics as had been the case on earlier albums.
